Symptom

You have added a domain name with the „Add domain“ button in the customer control panel. You have uploaded files, a website maybe. With the “preview” link you can see your website on the server’s preview address like

http://[domain].[ext].136-243-60-133.mindel.bitpalast.net/

But when you enter the domain name as a URL like

http://[domain].[ext]

the server cannot be found.

Cause

With the „Add domain“ button you have told the web server to react on requests directed to that domain name and you have created a web space for that domain from where the server will deliver files. The button creates the server’s configuration for your website, but it does not automatically register the domain name with a registry. Some customers already have domain names registered externally that they only want to point to their web space here, some others prefer to register domains elsewhere.

Solution

In order to register the domain not only on your own host, but on the Internet, too, you must order the domain name on our website. There you can also test whether that domain name is still available and which alternatives exist. If you only want to register a domain name, but no web space, enter a zero into the quantity of servers that you want to order. All domain names that you order will automatically be added to your web space.
